Spanish seamless pipe supplier Tubos Reunidos (TR) is developing a pipe capable of transporting hydrogen. As noted by Callanish, as part of its participation in the h2Bidea project, the company aims to support the expansion of green hydrogen valleys and industrial decarbonization in Spain.

“We are constantly improving our processes and products to make them more environmentally friendly,” explains John Bikandi, Director of Research and Development at TR. “The group is developing carbon steel pipelines capable of distributing 100% hydrogen at pressures up to 160 bar, which currently does not exist. This proves that we can reduce carbon dioxide emissions while contributing to the decarbonization of industry and building an environmentally friendly business value chain.”

The project is led by a Basque consortium that includes Nortegas, Tubos Reunidos, Arizaga, Bastarrica y Compañía (ABC Compressors), Orkli, Commercial Electronics Manufacturing Company (Fidegas) and Calcinor Servicios.

The project, implemented with the support of the Hazitek research program of the Basque country Government and the European Union, is scheduled to be completed by 2027, culminating in the demonstration of the h2TESTLAB distribution network, a dynamic circuit designed to assess the damage resistance of hydrogen-compatible components.
