Marcegaglia and Nova Marine Carriers are forming a new joint venture to optimize shipping, reduce environmental impacts, and secure supply chains in the face of increasing global uncertainty.
The new partnership is changing the face of the European transportation and logistics market.
Marcegaglia, one of the world's leading steel producers, has joined forces with the Italian-Swiss shipping group Nova Marine Carriers to create a joint venture, NovaMar Logistic, based in Malta. Developed with the support of OD Shipping, Marcegaglia's long—time brokerage partner, the project was officially presented after the signing of the contract by Antonio and Emma Marcegaglia, Vincenzo Romeo (CEO of Nova Marine Carriers) and Mario Bernacca (CEO of OD Shipping).
NovaMar Logistic will operate the Sider Luck, a tonne vessel that delivers raw materials from supply ports to Marcegaglia's key manufacturing facilities in Ravenna and Fos-sur-Mer. This step is designed to optimize transportation operations, increase environmental friendliness and reduce the environmental impact of steel logistics.
“With this new venture, we are strengthening our long-standing relationship with Nova Marine in the shipping sector, which is crucial to the competitiveness of the steel industry,” said Antonio Marcegaglia, CEO of Marcegaglia Steel.
“In today's world of conflict, geopolitical instability, and growing protectionism, ensuring sustainable, structured supply chains is essential to maintaining competitiveness.”

Mario Bernacca from OD Shipping emphasized the importance of the project's sustainable development. “This is not the first initiative that we have undertaken. We have successfully tested this model in the past. Using the same vessel, we transported more than tons of steel, significantly reducing emissions of harmful substances compared to small vessels and reducing the load on road transport. This is a textbook example of using ”sea lanes" for greener logistics."
Through closer integration of industrial production and shipping, NovaMar Logistic aims to offer a more efficient and sustainable approach to maritime transportation, meeting the growing need for sustainable and environmentally responsible supply chains.
