Tenova and Coolbrook join forces to develop carbon-free steel production

The Italian company Tenova, part of the Techint group, specializing in innovative solutions for the metallurgical and mining industries, announced the signing of a strategic partnership agreement with the Finnish company Coolbrook, engaged in transformational engineering and technology, to develop joint solutions that integrate the technologies of both companies to ensure carbon-free production of cast iron, steel and other metals.

Initially, the companies intended to develop the proprietary Coolbrook RotoDynamic Heater™ (RDH) technology, resulting in the replacement of fossil fuel combustion with clean electricity in high-temperature heating processes in the ferrous metallurgy and other branches of the metallurgical industry in general. After the completion of the project, Tenova and Coolbrook plan to expand their cooperation to other applications in the metallurgical industry.

Coolbrook's RDH™ technology can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 2.4 billion metric tons per year. Coolbrook is committed to adopting RDH™ technology as an industry standard by 2030.
