EU steel quotas reflect the change in trade dynamics after the introduction of US tariffs

On the first day of the new EU quota period, from July 1 to September 30, some import quotas for certain types of steel products such as HRC, CRC, metal-coated sheets, organic-coated sheets, and tin products were allocated to some countries such as Taiwan, Turkey, Vietnam, and China. The number of goods awaiting customs clearance has exceeded, while more than 60 percent of quotas for some types of steel products have been consumed.

Some import quotas for certain types of steel products were used at a rapid pace, while the use of some quotas decreased compared to the previous year. The beginning of the previous quota period is from April 1 to June 30.

The exceeded quotas can be seen in the table below.

South Korea consumed 70.55% of its quota of 163,077 tons of HRC (1A), although at the beginning of the previous quota period, the country used only 44.73% of the specified quota. India used 64.44% and 61.64% of its quotas for 54,279 tons of metal-coated (4A) and 79,534 tons of organic-coated sheets, respectively, while the country's use of these quotas was 122.72% and 83.53%, respectively, at the beginning of the previous quota period. Meanwhile, India has consumed 93.91 percent of its quota of 32,114 tons of stainless steel
