Bandstahl Hagen plans major investments in warehousing and recycling

The German steel service center Bandstahl Hagen is planning a significant expansion of its storage and processing facilities. According to Kallanish, its parent company, the Niedax industrial group, has invested a double-digit sum of one million euros for this purpose.

Bandstahl-Service-Hagen (BSH) is one of two metalwork service centers in the Niedax Group of companies, along with Boecker Stahl-Service in Schwert. In these two sections, a strip blank made of hot-rolled wide strip, cold-rolled strip, hot-dip galvanized steel and stainless steel is processed. The annual production volume exceeds 225,000 tons, of which up to 130,000 tons are sold in Hagen.

BSH's 35,000 square meter production and storage facilities are planned to be expanded by 2030 with new 36,000 m2 production and storage facilities optimized for technological processes. In addition to building a new workshop, investments will also focus on automation and the increased use of artificial intelligence to optimize existing production processes, the parent company said.

"We are confident in our metalwork service centers in the Ruhr region," says Bruno Reifels, Executive Director of Niedax. "By purchasing a new crushing machine and using artificial intelligence-controlled technology, we aim to significantly increase process efficiency and double the amount of recycling."

Both SSCs play a strategically important role in the company's value chain. Their steel is not only supplied to industrial companies for further processing, but is also used mainly for the production of their own cable trays, which is the main activity of the Niedax group of companies.

In addition, Niedax is involved in a project to create a reliable, high-performance fiberglass network in Germany using cable management systems.
