ArcelorMittal and other European manufacturers of rolled products raise prices: sources

According to market sources, ArcelorMittal is increasing prices for hot-rolled and cold-rolled products, as well as hot-dip galvanized coils, by 30 euros per ton ($34) across Europe due to new contracts covering the remaining delivery dates in the third quarter and October deliveries.

The revised base price for HRC is now set at 590 euros per tonne, taking into account the German market as a benchmark for Northern Europe. In Southern Europe, the asking prices are 580 euros per ton with delivery.

The price adjustment is taking place against the background of stricter import restrictions due to the EU's protective quota system, the expected European Commission measures to replace protective measures and the introduction of the Carbon Boundary Regulation Mechanism (CBAM) in January 2026.

Due to the growing uncertainty regarding shipments to Asia due to the potential costs associated with CBAM and the increased lead times, buyers are turning to suppliers from nearby regions. However, some producers in Turkey and North Africa are also increasing their offerings, exploiting their position as the few remaining viable import options to Europe before the end of the year.

In Southern Europe, ArcelorMittal's price increase is supported by other regional producers, who are also increasing their offers by 20 euros per tonne. Kallanish notes that in Northern Europe, another major producer is also monitoring the situation and is offering a price of 590 euros per ton.
