Tata Steel UK announces that its chief executive, Rajesh Nair, has been appointed as the new chairman of the UK Steel Manufacturers Association, Kallanish learns reports.
Nair has more than 36 years of experience at Tata Steel Group and is a member of the Board of Tata Steel, UK. In 2021, he joined UK steelmaker as Chief Operating Officer, and in 2023 he became CEO.
In addition to his current duties at the steel company, he will serve as chairman.
Nair says: "It is a great honor for me to be appointed Chairman of UK Steel at such a pivotal moment for the industry. This is a period of profound change, which is fraught with significant challenges, but also real opportunities to strengthen the industry in the long term."
"I look forward to working with UK Steel's members and stakeholders to help secure this future by working closely with the government to develop a steel production strategy and address structural challenges. problems such as uncompetitive energy prices and the growing threat of importing high-emission products," he adds.
The steel company is currently undergoing a £1.25 billion ($1.67 billion) renovation of its Port Talbot facility, building an electric arc furnace (see Kallanish passim).
