The United States opens the request window for tariff inclusion in section 232

Callanish learns that the U.

S. government is proposing to include requests for additional processed goods in Section 232 of the steel tariffs.

The notification was issued based on a coordinated effort by the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), the Office of Strategic Industries and Economic Security, and the Department of Commerce are considering opening a window to impose duties on steel and aluminum, according to a document from the Federal Register.

In February, President Donald Trump issued executive orders 10895 and 10896, which called for the establishment of specific tariffs on imports of aluminum and steel products, as well as steel and aluminum derivatives.

The BIS has established a procedure for including additional steel and aluminum derivatives as part of the responsibilities established by Trump under Section 232.

The deadline for submitting applications is two weeks, on September 29.

The notification states that accepted applications for inclusion after the end of the application period will be published for a two-week public comment period.
