European prices for environmentally friendly steel remained unchanged a week before Thursday, October 16, amid moderate market activity, while sources reported only sporadic demand for decarbonized steel due to the implementation of projects.
Market participants noted another quiet week for the European market of environmentally friendly steel.
"There aren't many projects in Europe that require the use of environmentally friendly steel – at least for the moment," a source from a steel service center in Germany told Fastmarkets.
"There are only a few large customers in Europe who require environmentally friendly steel. Normal volumes are being sold to these customers, but we are not talking about significant volumes," said a source at the plant in Northern Europe.
The buyer from Northern Europe informed Fastmarkets that they are considering the possibility of purchasing 2000-4000 tons of "green" steel for 2026 and are currently discussing the terms.
It was also reported that the German manufacturer of household appliances places regular orders for "green steel".
"We are making trial orders for some customers from Northern Europe, but the volumes are small," the distributor told Fastmarkets.
In general, the sources agreed with this. that the environmentally friendly steel market is likely to remain a niche sector over the next few months.
"The massive demand for environmentally friendly steel can only be stimulated through government projects. Otherwise, it will remain a niche market," said a source at another factory.
