Following the fire incident that occurred on October 8 at the ArcelorMittal facility in Foz-sur-Mer, France, the company confirmed that the first priority remains to ensure the safety of work at the facility, which is expected to be completed by the end of the week.
The company stated that the company is working closely with local authorities and internal teams to ensure that all safety and environmental standards are met before resuming any production activities.
Some operations have been temporarily changed due to the incident. The blast furnace and steel mill are still closed, while the city's network of enterprises has extended scheduled maintenance. Meanwhile, the coke plant continues to operate on its own gas, while the conveyor processing, refinement and logistics departments continue to process and ship existing stocks.
ArcelorMittal teams are currently dismantling and repairing the damaged infrastructure. Based on the current analysis and delivery dates of materials, the company plans to partially restart the steel mill in early December.
A full return to normal operation is still being considered and will depend on the progress of repairs and the stability of the supply chain.
To reduce disruptions, some orders have been suspended. The products have been transferred to other ArcelorMittal plants throughout Europe, and the slabs are being purchased abroad to meet production needs at the end of the year.
