Prices for Italian rebar are starting to rise after an attempt by domestic steel producers to increase them in mid-October.

This week, factory quotations are about 270 euros per ton (314 US dollars per ton), while offers at a price below 260 euros per ton are not accepted. One of the manufacturers says that additional price increases may be introduced in November.

Some shortages of materials are reported, as some steel mills have not been operating at full capacity in recent weeks. While many buyers continue to take a wait-and-see attitude, one of them informed Kallanish that he was purchasing small volumes at a price of 260 euros per ton from the plant, adding that he doubted the sustainability of the current price increase.

The construction company notes that activity has decreased compared to June and July, although projects are still ongoing. The distributor reports some demand for rebar and mesh this month. Meanwhile, several French distributors in the south complain about the strong presence of Italians who offer materials at lower prices than local suppliers.

Recent domestic transactions are reported at a price of about 250-260 euros per ton. Taking into account the additional dimensions of 260-270 euros per ton, the actual prices are in the range of 520-530 euros per ton in stock. Grid prices also tend to increase, averaging 250-260 euros per ton, excluding an additional 300 euros per ton per size.
