European flat-plate prices were mostly unchanged in the week leading up to Wednesday, November 26, amid low demand and uncertainty about the EU's carbon border regulation mechanism (CBAM), Fastmarkets sources said.
A distributor source told Fastmarkets that there is "no demand in the market," adding that players do not want to take risks until there is more clarity about new legislative changes.
Meanwhile, another distribution source reported that consumption remains limited as players "expect more clarity with CBAM."
Northern Europe
According to sources, domestic prices for cold-rolled coils in Northern Europe rose slightly in the week to Wednesday.
Estimates of acceptable levels were announced, which ranged from 710-730 euros per ton after completion of work, compared with 700-720 euros per ton after completion of work the previous week.
However, a deal was also reported at a price of 710-720 euros per ton from the plant.
Fastmarkets' weekly estimate of prices for cold-rolled steel coils for domestic consumption and exports to Northern Europe on Wednesday was 710-720 euros (823-835 dollars) per ton, down from 700-720 euros per ton a week earlier.
Meanwhile, domestic HDG prices remained stable.
Estimates of an acceptable level in the range of 710-730 euros per ton after production were announced, the same as in the previous assessment period.
It was also reported about the offer at a price of about 730-750 euros per ton from the plant.
Fastmarkets' weekly price estimate for hot-dip galvanized steel coils for domestic consumption and export to Northern Europe also amounted to 710-730 euros per ton from the factory, unchanged week to week.
On the other hand, import prices for HDG and CRC were also stable.
Fastmarkets' weekly price estimate for imports of cold-rolled steel coils from CFR's main port in Northern Europe on Wednesday was 604-620 euros per ton, unchanged week-to-week.
Fastmarkets' weekly price estimate for imports of hot-dip galvanized steel coils from CFR's main port in Northern Europe was also unchanged on Wednesday, at 680-720 euros per ton.
Southern Europe
Domestic CRC prices in Southern Europe rose a week before Wednesday.
Estimates of an acceptable level were announced in the range of 690-730 euros per ton after completion of work, compared with 690-720 euros per ton, which were announced in mid-November.
However, a deal was also reported at a price of 710-720 euros per ton from the plant.
Fastmarkets' weekly estimate of prices for cold-rolled steel coils for domestic consumption in Southern Europe was 710-720 euros per ton from the factory, down from 690-720 euros per ton in the previous week.
