Prices for rebar and wire rod in the Polish domestic market continued to rise during the week until Friday, January 30, driven by the continued rise in raw material prices and the absence of import pressure.
The introduction of the Carbon Dioxide Emissions Control Mechanism (CBAM) in January 2026 led to a slowdown in import activity in the steel sector due to uncertainty about the cost of CBAM certificates, and the long products sector was no exception.
Last week, the Ukrainian company Arcelormittal Kryvyi Rih (AMKR) announced plans to shut down the bottling line at its steel mill in central Ukraine in the second quarter of 2026, citing CBAM as the main reason.
At the same time, prices for scrap metal and energy resources in the EU continued to rise, which led to higher prices for finished long products.
In Poland, the supply of rebar decreased to 2650-2700 zlotys (716.43-758.57 USD) per ton without VAT in the week to January 30, compared with 2550-2700 zlotys per ton without VAT in the previous week.
Acceptable levels were estimated in the range of 2600-2650 zlotys per ton.
Fastmarkets' weekly price estimate for domestic rebar steel rods in Poland on Friday was 2600-2650 zlotys per ton, which is 50 zlotys higher than 2550-2600 zlotys per ton a week earlier.
Wire rod offers ranged from 2,750 to 2,950 zlotys per ton, depending on the supplier, with the highest bids from customers not exceeding 2,750 zlotys per ton.
Fastmarkets' weekly estimate of prices for steel rod (drawing quality) supplied to Poland was 2750-2800 zlotys per ton, which is 150 zlotys higher than 2600-2650 zlotys per ton a week earlier.
