The European Commission plans to publish on April 7 the cost of Carbon Dioxide Emission Control Mechanism (CBAM) certificates for the first quarter of 2026, Kallanish notes.
Importers of CBAM products will have to purchase CBAM certificates from February 2027 to cover their imports in 2026. Starting in 2027, the Commission will calculate the cost of certificates on a weekly basis. For imports made in 2026, CBAM certificates will be calculated as the quarterly average of prices set at the EU ETS auction for permits.
The cost of a quarter will be calculated during the first calendar week of the following quarter and published on the first business day of the calendar week following the billing week. The publication will be posted both on the CBAM website of the European Commission and in the CBAM registry.
Prices for certificates for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters of 2026 will be published on July 6, 2026, October 5, 2026 and January 4, 2027, respectively.
Meanwhile, applications for participation in tenders for a Common Central Platform that will manage the sale and repurchase of CBAM certificates are currently open. Interested parties have until 12 p.m. on March 20 to submit their proposals.
