Growth of the EU pipe sector due to construction: Eurofer

Steel pipe production in the EU is expected to recover only gradually in the coming years, with production projected to grow by 0.2% in 2025, followed by 0.8% growth in 2026 and 1.5% in 2027.

In the third quarter of 2025, the volume of pipe industry production in the EU increased by 3.8% year-on-year, marking the first increase after six consecutive quarterly declines, according to Kallanish from Eurofer's forecast for 2026.

However, the industry's prospects are still limited by structural shifts in energy markets. Demand from the oil and gas sector is not expected to improve significantly as the EU continues to shift from pipeline gas imports to liquefied natural gas imports, reducing the need for new pipeline infrastructure.

As a result, future pipe demand growth is expected to increasingly depend on the construction sector, while demand from the automotive and mechanical engineering industries is projected to remain relatively low.

Meanwhile, the pipe and rolled pipe sector has been experiencing difficulties in recent years. Steel pipe production declined by 1.4% in 2023 and by another 2.4% in 2024 amid weak industrial demand, supply chain disruptions, and the effects of the war caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
