According to the German Federation of Steel Producers (WV Stahl), in July 2026, the output of crude steel in Germany decreased by 1.8% compared to the same month last year and amounted to 2.68 million tons. The association noted that this is the first annual decrease in the indicator this year and it indicates a resumption of the recession amid weak demand for steel.
Despite the July decline, German crude steel production increased by 6.8% year—on-year to 21.31 million tons in January-July 2026.
Pig iron output in July amounted to 1.66 million tons, which is 4.5% less than a year earlier. In seven months, pig iron production increased by 7.3% and reached 13.29 million tons.
At the same time, the production of hot-rolled steel in the country in July increased by 1.4% year-on-year, to 2.54 million tons. In January—July, this figure increased by 4.2% and amounted to 18.65 million tons.
