European plate and Italian slab prices remain stable

In the week to Thursday, October 29, European plate prices were unchanged. Prices for imported slabs in Italy also remained stable, with buying activity weak, sources told Fastmarkets.

Italy

During the week, workable prices for Italian plate were €740–750 ($824–835) per tonne ex-works.

A deal was reported at €750 per tonne ex-works. An offer was also heard at the same price.

Offers for January delivery were higher, at €770–780 per tonne ex-works.

These prices were excluded from the final assessment because the delivery lead times fell outside Fastmarkets’ methodology, which covers deliveries within the next six weeks.

As a result, Fastmarkets’ weekly assessment for domestic 8–40 mm plate in Southern Europe, ex-works, was €740–750 per tonne on Thursday, unchanged week on week.

In the slab market, offers and workable prices for imports from Asia into Italy were $580–590 per tonne CIF.

However, trading remained subdued, and buyers showed limited interest.

“Trading activity remains low, with most buyers having already covered their requirements despite continued offers from Asian producers,” a buyer source told Fastmarkets.

Fastmarkets’ weekly assessment for imported slabs delivered CIF Italy was $580–590 per tonne on Thursday, unchanged week on week.

No new data on CFR import plate deals were reported to the market during the week.

Therefore, Fastmarkets’ weekly assessment for imported 8–40 mm plate delivered to major ports in Southern Europe, CFR, remained at €710–750 per tonne on Thursday.

Northern Europe

In Northern Europe, workable prices for domestically produced plate were €840–880 per tonne ex-works during the week.

Fastmarkets’ weekly assessment for domestic 8–40 mm plate in Northern Europe, ex-works, was €840–880 per tonne on Thursday, unchanged week on week.

No new data on imported plate deliveries to the region were reported.

Fastmarkets’ weekly assessment for imported 8–40 mm plate delivered to major ports in Northern Europe, CFR, remained at the previous week’s level of €710–750 per tonne on Thursday.
