ATRACKSYST: ArcelorMittal promotes project to track steel production in Spain
Callanish notes that ArcelorMittal continues to make progress in the digital transformation of its production processes and in strengthening product quality control in Spain.
The so-called ATRACKSYST steel company's steel production tracking project has completed the pilot phase and passed official validation. ArcelorMittal states that it has received very satisfactory results from the implementation of this initiative at the wire rod plant in Gijón, which confirms the acceptance of the system into operation.
In a sample of 144 randomly selected blanks, the system achieved 96% identification accuracy, even in cases where tracking information was incorrect or missing.
"The project aims to meet the strategic need for more reliable, flexible, and trouble-free tracking systems in challenging steel production environments, reducing uncertainty about material history, improving operational decision-making, and contributing to more efficient and sustainable production in line with decarbonization goals," the company notes.
During the testing phase, ArcelorMittal expanded the use of ATRACKSYST to other products such as blooms. In addition, technology has been developed and implemented to ensure traceability of supplies of materials from other enterprises, which is a key aspect in the current context of the reorganization of the company's production processes.
The ATRACKSYST project was developed as part of the Spanish Strategic Recovery and Resilience Plan (Perte).
