British trade unions are shocked by the decision of British Airways for the dismissal of 12 thousand employees
British Airways plans to cut up to 12,000 jobs from the 42,000 total headcount because of the collapse of the business against the background of the pandemic coronavirus. According to state news Agency UK BBC, the founder of the British Airways company IAG said that it needed to introduce a "programme of restructuring and redundancy" as long as the demand for air travel will not reach the level of 2019.
Earlier in April, British Airways using the British program of preserving jobs, was suspended from work 22 626 employees. All they get is salary compensation from the government as temporarily unemployed.
the pilots Union Balpa said that he was shocked by the news and vowed to fight "every" case of dismissal.
"This is very strange for the airline, which recently announced that it is rich enough to weather the storm Covid, and refused any state support ... we will fight to save everyone", said General Secretary of the Union Brian strutton for the away team.
the structure of the IAG also includes the Spanish airline Iberia and Irish Aer Lingus.
In a statement, IAG said: "the Proposals remain subject to consultation, but it is likely that they will affect most of the employees of British Airways and can lead to a reduction of up to 12 000 of them."
the Company said it will take several years to travel back to the level preceding the spread of the virus.
IAG (International Consolidated Airlines Group) is an international aviation holding company with headquarters in London and an official registration in Madrid. The band was formed in January 2011 with the merger of the largest carriers in the UK and Spain with British Airways and Iberia, respectively.
