The Spanish company Hydnum Steel (HS) was recognized as the World Economic Forum (VEF) one of the five most innovative projects in the world on the way to a more responsible and effective steel industry.

at the Davos summit Siemens Director Roland Bush emphasized the value of digitalization, which will be integrated into all stages of the first “green” Puertolyano steel plant on the Pyrenee Peninsula. HS and Siemens, project partners, chose an innovative concept. After the stage of the technological definition, the basis of the project on the integration of the use of Digital Twin was laid down at all stages of production, from design to the full launch of the facility.

This innovation will allow you to optimize the consumption of energy, resources and working conditions of operators, in real time. Maximizing the efficiency and significantly reducing environmental impacts.

“It will not be just a plant, this is an obligation to the future,” says Eva Manero General, HS. The General Director emphasizes the integration of digitalization, renewable energy, green hydrogen and water supply as converting elements in rethinking the standards of steel production.

“We will produce steel that will contribute to the energy independence of Europe and create significant jobs for our youth. Steel revolutioned in the industry, and now the time has come for the industry to revolutionize the production methods of steel, ”adds Marneiro.

The project of the green" steel factory in Puertoly is developed for the use of energy that does not contain fossil fuel. the entire production process. It will gradually turn on green hydrogen for a significant reduction in CO2 emissions. The power of the plant will be up to 2.6 million tons/year of flat steel.

The project is estimated at € 1.65 billion ($ 1.72 billion) and will create more than 1000 direct jobs. It is expected that a plant occupying an area of 1.3 million square meters will be commissioned in 2026.
