The Ukrainian ferrous scrap market is inevitably waiting for prices to fall after the collapse of quotations on all world markets.

This opinion was expressed by economist Alexey Kushch, commenting on the latest trends in commodities markets.

"April 2025 has become a real "bearish" month for all global exchanges, including those where commodities are traded. The decline occurred in all raw materials, and oil prices were noticeably cheaper, but the largest drop was recorded in scrap prices", - the economist said.

According to him, the reduction in the cost of scrap occurred in all regions of the world.

"but the biggest price collapse occurred in Turkey, the market of which directly affects the Ukrainian realities. In less than a month, the cost of scrap HMS 1/2 (80:20) fell by almost $70/ton, that is, from $382/ton CIF (as of March 27) to $313/ton CIF (as of April 22). Such a rapid rate of decline in such a short period is a record for the last 2 years. Moreover, it is significant that betting on a rebound after the end of Ramadan and Easter did not work", - he says.

At the same time, as Alexey Kushch reminded, the Ukrainian market always reacts to global trends with delay.

"Yes, indeed, scrap prices in Ukraine were gradually creeping down, but there was no rapid decline. According to various forecasts, the collapse of scrap prices is expected around the first decade of May", - the economist noted.

The expert believes that global trends will reach the Ukrainian market in May.

"Someone says that there will be "minus" 1000 UAH/ton of scrap, someone is more radical, predicts "minus" 2000 UAH/ton. But the general opinion is that there will be no price increase. However, no one knows at which point the market will find its price bottom. That is, he will actively search for it and fall deeper and deeper in price", - stated Alexey Kushch.
