Swedish steel company SSAB has raised 2.3 billion euros in green financing to support its investment in a 4.5 billion euro mini-plant in Lulea, Sweden, operating without the use of fossil fuels.

The financing package, structured in accordance with the principles of green lending, was supported by the Swedish National Debt Authority, the Italian export credit agency SACE and the Nordic Investment Bank.
The new mini-plant will be equipped with two electric arc furnaces, advanced metallurgy and an integrated rolling mill with a capacity of 2.5 million tons per year.
SSAB expects the new plant to increase flexibility, reduce lead times, and promote sustainable steel production.
