Exports of semi-finished steel products from Ukraine decreased by 25%

Ukrzaliznytsya JSC (UZ) has revised the average daily speed of its own freight rolling stock, increasing it by an average of 38% in traffic, the company's press service reported.

Ukrzaliznytsya has revised the average daily speed of its own freight rolling stock, which will make the use of the company's wagons much more profitable for customers. Carriers will spend less than a day on transportation, which means they will pay less for using wagons," the company said in a statement on Thursday.

According to the company, the revised speed standards cover the following types of rolling stock owned by Ukrzaliznytsia: grain carriers; tank cars; covered wagons; cement trucks; converted specialized rolling stock; piggyback and fitting platforms. The new values entered into force on June 16 and will be valid until December 31, 2025.

For fitting platforms, the new speed indicators are set at the following levels: domestic and import transportation: carriage/container shipping – 170 km/day (it was: 154 km/day); block or container trains – 197 km/day (it was: 154 km/day). For export via land border crossings: carriage/container shipping – 213 km/day (was: 139 km/day); block or container trains-213 km/day (was: 139 km/day). Transportation to port stations: carriage/container shipping – 182 km/day (was: 156 km/day); block or container trains-264 km/day (was: 156 km/day).

The updated speed figures are based on a detailed analysis of the actual movement of wagons in the first half of 2025. In particular, it was revealed that for a number of types of rolling stock, the actual average daily speed significantly exceeds the current standards, the report says.

"For rolling stock, the speed of movement will increase by an average of 38%. This will allow the shipper to deliver cargo in fewer days using the Ukrzaliznytsia wagon, which directly reduces logistics costs and will contribute to the development of container transportation both on the territory of Ukraine and to other countries," the press service said."Ukrzaliznytsya".

Alexander Pertsovsky, Chairman of the company's Management Board, noted that a significant acceleration of freight traffic regulations would make ordering UZ wagons more attractive even in the current surplus market, and would also provide advantages in competition with private operators, which have recently dominated.
