Coking coal imports to India fell in September due to rising prices

In September, India imported 4.27 million tons of coking coal, which is 7% less than in a year, and 2% less than in August, but in the first nine months of this year increased by 37% to 42.4 million tons.

Most of the imports came from Australia. Australian imports in September were down more than 9% yoy and 10% yoy to 3.26 million tonnes.

Steel consumption in India generally declines between July and September as construction activities are hampered by heavy rainfall.

Earlier this year, India signed a framework agreement with Russia to diversify its coking coal sources.
