The European Steel Technology Platform (EStep) has appointed Wim Van der Strycht as its new secretary general, Kallanish reports.
Van der Stricht will assume his duties as Secretary General immediately and will officially assume the post of Secretary General on August 1. He replaced Klaus Peters, who had served as Secretary General since 2015. Peters has expanded collaboration between industry, research organizations, and policy makers, supporting important initiatives, including the Clean Steel Partnership.
Van der Stricht has more than 25 years of experience in industrial research, technology strategies and innovation, particularly in the field of low carbon steel production and closed-loop economics and European research programs, notes EStep.
He joined EStep from ArcelorMittal, where he served as Corporate Director of Technology, responsible for technology strategy in the field of CO2 emissions and the closed-loop economy.
As Secretary General, he will lead EStep's day-to-day operations, coordinate research and innovation priorities, and strengthen cooperation with European institutions and stakeholders. He will play a central role in the implementation of the Clean Steel partnership, contributing to its continuation within the framework of the Clean Steel and Metals partnership starting in 2028.
