How to write goals on a resume?

Resume goal is an explanation of the reason why it was written. More specifically, this is an indication of what position the applicant is applying for in the company, or the main type of activity in which he intends to engage. Therefore, the goal can be formulated as follows: "Get a job as a designer in the Astra company." With this approach, in fact, the desired position is simply indicated. This is the easiest, but not the most effective way to designate a goal, because in the end it gets lost among other similar ones. It is worth remembering that when you send a resume for a particular job, it is important to let the employer know that you clearly know what you want.

Basic rules for writing a goal in a resume

  • Prepare a separate resume for each vacancy. Specifying multiple goals reduces the likelihood of employment.
  • Avoid vague wording and difficult-to-understand phrases. They do not carry a semantic load, do not show your high intellectual abilities, but complicate the reading of the resume.
  • Don't set the bar too high. Realistic intentions and the ability to explain them will increase your value in the interview.
  • Do not use a meaningless introduction in the column (get a job, fill a vacancy, and the like).
  • If you need to specify several goals, it is better to choose positions that are similar in type of activity (salesperson, cashier, consultant).
  • If it doesn't come up with an acceptable goal, list only the position and industry you want. But you need to take into account that with a lot of competition, such a resume may not pass the selection.

H2: Don't Forget Personal

At each stage of the selection of applicants, the employer seeks to determine whether the applicants' plans for the future coincide with the company's intentions. Therefore, it is so important to indicate the goal in the resume, cover letter and directly at the interview. In order for the correct goal to be formulated in the end, it is necessary to establish the relationship between career and personality.

For the right formulation of personal goals, ask yourself three questions:

  • What problem of mine would I find a solution to if I got this position (beyond the salary)?
  • What result do I want to achieve?
  • What steps do you need to take to achieve this?

Example: (1) I will get management experience, improve my qualifications, expand my circle of acquaintances with the right people. (2) I will be able to apply for a higher salary and position, get a certificate. (3) Complete an internship, close a hundred deals, get a promotion, get a recommendation.

If you analyze your own deep motives and find the relationship between the individual and the field of activity, then work will delight and arouse sincere interest among business partners.

Clearly state work goals

If the goal conveys the essence of the work and explains what kind of help you can be contacted for, what results you will achieve in the course of performing your functions, then it is professional.

True goals demonstrate professional interests and always focus on other people. They indicate work that you can and want to do for a long time and with high quality. Such motives have personal and social significance, contribute to professional growth and recognition of society.

Comprehensible and reasonable professional intent can be determined by four questions:

  • What kind of people's "pains" am I best able to cover?
  • What tools do I use to get things done?
  • What benefits do people get from working with me?
  • Who are these people who need my help?

Example: (1) Legal and financial support of contracts. (2) Conclusion of transparent and competent transactions, knowledge and control of the obligations of the contractor. (3) Successful and cost-effective purchases, saving time and money. (4) Investors, real estate buyers, clients of real estate agencies.

More resume writing tips

When compiling a resume, you must define a clear benchmark - you need to arouse the interest of the personnel officer, attract and keep his attention. And for this, in the “Goals” column, it’s not enough just to write the name of the post. Of the three examples given, it is the last one that is most likely to attract attention:

  • marketer;
  • work as a marketer;
  • Study the market, monitor competitors, apply marketing tools to ensure brand awareness and the required level of sales across different channels.

The "Goal" column should contain a concise description of your competencies, ambitions and desire to work, and the ability to clearly communicate your thoughts will help you get many profitable offers. A first-class specialist can always be recognized by how well he formulated his goal in a resume.
