JSC Uralelectromed (an enterprise of the UMMC metallurgical complex) has begun designing a new cooling tower with a capacity of 3,000 cubic meters per hour for the copper smelting shop. The implementation of the project will allow the enterprise to increase the productivity of equipment for recycled water by a third. The cost of design work will exceed 4 million rubles.
As explained by the chief engineer of the project, Arseny Kasatkin, in the near future the enterprise will increase the production of copper sulfate, which will require additional volume of clean circulating water. The commissioning of the new cooling tower will allow solving this problem.
The design of the new cooling tower will be more compact than the existing one at the enterprise, and its pumping station will be mounted separately - this will improve the efficiency of operation and maintenance of components and mechanisms of the entire industrial facility. To control the cooling tower, it will be equipped with an integrated automation system.
At the moment, the specialists of the design work department of Uralelektromed JSC are designing engineering networks, foundations for the structure of the cooling tower and the pumping station. The project is planned to be prepared in the first quarter of 2020. At present, the total load on the existing cooling tower is about 6.5 thousand cubic meters per hour. The main consumers of chilled water are copper smelting shop (1100 m³ per hour), copper powder shop and chemical-metallurgical shop (120 m³ per hour), vitriol shop (1100 m³ per hour).
