The latest edition of the podcast "Talking about Steel" from MEPS International discusses changes in the European Commission's measures to protect steel imports and further trade protection measures that may follow.
The new release, recorded as the new rules come into force, details the changes that have been introduced since April 1 and relies on research by MEPs to take into account the reaction of market participants. It also examines the potential impact of further trade protection measures proposed in the European Commission's Steel and Metals Action Plan.
Market analyst John Carruthers-Green said that some offers were "shrinking." Chris Jackson, an analyst at the steel market, noted the uncertainty of European steel buyers regarding steel imports, which arose as a result of speculation about possible changes, did not decrease after their introduction.
He said: "Customers have taken a step back, taking a wait-and-see attitude and keeping the number of orders placed to a minimum.
"Now we're at the stage after the announcement, you're starting to notice some new trends, but we definitely have a feeling that imports come with a certain risk."
