Tata Steel Nederland has announced that it has applied to the Northern Environmental Authority of North Holland for a comprehensive renewal of the natural resource use permit covering all of its steel production in Ijmuiden, as the company prepares to implement its project to produce environmentally friendly steel and further reduce emissions, including carbon dioxide and nitrogen.
The company stated that the updated permit is intended to bring its operations in line with current laws and regulations and provide a framework for both the Green Steel project and other future investments aimed at cleaner and more circular steel production.

DeNOx installation to reduce nitrogen emissions at the pellet plant by 80%
One of the main measures aimed at reducing nitrogen emissions is the new DeNOx plant at the company's pellet plant, which is expected to reduce nitrogen emissions into the atmosphere. Nitrogen emissions at the plant have been reduced by about 80 percent. Together with the previously completed dedusting plant, this project represents the largest environmental facility in the history of Tata Steel Nederland, with investments of over 200 million euros. In order to fully commission the DeNOx plant, Tata Steel Nederland is also applying for the necessary environmental protection and water supply permits from the relevant Dutch authorities. The installation can be fully put into operation after obtaining the necessary permits for the protection of nature, the environment and water resources.
According to the company's statement, obtaining a single comprehensive environmental permit for the entire Ijmuiden site is designed to provide regulatory certainty for the implementation of existing sustainability measures, as well as future projects aimed at reducing emissions and supporting the transition to environmentally friendly steel production.
