Magnitogorsk iron and steel works has set a record for shipment to the domestic market

The previous record for the shipment to the domestic market, the plant was established in 2014 9,588 million tons.
In the last twenty-five years, CMI has consistently increased its presence in the Russian market and the CIS markets. If in 1996-1999 for export to foreign countries was up to two thirds of total sales, in the mid-2000s, the share of the domestic market (with the CIS) in the shipment exceeded half. In the 2010s emphasis on domestic market only strengthened: thus, in 2019 it had 88.5% of sales, while exports accounted for only 11.5%.
MMK is the leading supplier of steel products to the domestic market, both due to the presence of Magnitogorsk of a wide assortment of the most popular types of metal, and a favorable geographical position close to the major steel consuming centers of the Russian Federation and the CIS. In regional terms, the most significant for the plant are "homemade" Russian regions – closely spaced markets in which the company has a logistical advantage – the Urals, the Volga region and Siberia. They in total account for 64 % of sales in the domestic market. The CIS countries account for about 15% of shipments.
Record 2019 – a natural result of the implementation of the policy of import substitution and a high priority to ensure the needs of the domestic market, which has been focused the largest investment projects of MMK in recent decades. Among them: the creation of modern rolling production, the construction of facilities for the production of coated rolled steel, the construction of the largest industrial complexes for production of rolled plates and cold-rolled galvanized sheet for the automotive industry. Today, CMI offers consumers a wide assortment of high quality rolled metal products with a predominant share of products with high added value.
