NLMK Group, an international metallurgical company, has supplied the first batch of high-strength Quend 1100 steel to one of the leaders in the lifting equipment market - Liebherr.
Steel from the Belgian company NLMK Clabecq will be used to produce a telescopic boom for a new type of Liebherr mobile crane with a lifting capacity of 230 tons. A prototype was manufactured and exhibited at the international exhibition of equipment for the construction and mining of minerals bauma 2019.
As part of bauma 2019, a delegation of NLMK Group led by President Grigory Fedorishin met with the leaders of Liebherr-Werk Ehingen GmbH (produces self-propelled cranes) and Liebherr-Purchasing Services GmbH and discussed the expansion of the partnership, in particular the development of the line of high-strength Quend brands and their application in the Liebherr models being developed.

Quend 960 and Quend 1100 are complex high-strength steels. They meet increased requirements for strength, surface quality and thickness tolerances. In 2018, high-strength steel grades Quend 960 and Quend 1100 (min yield strength 960 MPa and 1 100 MPa, respectively) have been homologated (tested for compliance with the requirements) by the leaders of the lifting equipment market: Liebherr, Manitowoc Cranes, Tadano Faun GmbH.

High-strength steel sheets of the Quend brand are intended for use in chassis production trucks, construction lifting and handling equipment, trailers and other equipment where high structural strength is critical. The use of Quend allows to reduce the weight of structural elements by more than 20%, reducing their production costs and increasing the operational characteristics of the equipment.
