The turbine unit T 42 /50-2.9 was produced at the Ural Turbine Works. The generator for it was manufactured by specialists of the Novosibirsk Scientific and Production Association "Elsib" PJSC. The electric power of the turbine generator is 50 MW. The turbine is made in one cylinder and is equipped with the latest automatic control system for optimal operation while reducing energy costs. In particular, the specific heat consumption for the generation of one kilowatt of electricity will decrease by about 15%. This will allow PJSC MMK to reduce the consumption of natural gas.

The new medium pressure turbine is one of a kind. When creating it, completely new technologies were used, and many of the elements installed on the unit were previously used only on turbines of higher power and high pressure: in particular, stop and control valves, combined into one block. For the first time, control and protection elements made in a single unit are used on a turbine installed at the Central Power Plant of PJSC MMK. As part of the replacement of the turbine, unique technical solutions were used: the unit was installed in the existing turbine hall in place of the old turbine No. 6, next to the operating equipment ... The projects were adjusted with reference to the existing conditions and with the possibility of safe operation of the equipment. The builders installed 280 tons of metal structures for various purposes, laid more than four kilometers of pipeline and 230 kilometers of cable for control and automation systems. In addition, a new transformer substation was installed, which will receive a voltage of 110 kilovolts from this turbine and supply it directly to the grid.

Today, the main power equipment of the CES is eight power and two hot water boilers, nine turbine generators with a total capacity of 216 MW. The start-up and commissioning of the new unit increased the plant's capacity by 25 MW. In addition, the economic indicators of the unit will contribute to the increase in the difference between purchased electricity and that produced at the CES in favor of the latter.

In addition to the increase in electricity generation, the commissioning of the turbine unit will increase the reliability of heat transfer for heating and hot water supply to the city of Magnitogorsk. Central Electric Power Station of PJSC MMK provides heat energy to a part of the industrial site of the plant and the Leninsky district of the city, and also gives steam, chemically purified water and condensate to the plant's shops.

The service life of a new turbine is at least forty years.
