Continuous reduction of negative impact on the environment, implementation of the best available technologies are the most important elements of MMK's corporate strategy.
Investments The Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works in the implementation of measures included in the "Clean Air" program of the national project "Ecology" will amount to more than 23 billion rubles. This will reduce the integrated air pollution index of Magnitogorsk to a level below 5, which corresponds to the definition of a "Clean City".
According to him, the environmental projects of Magnitogorsk are included in the environmental strategy of the entire country. In accordance with the decree of the President of Russia "On national goals and strategic objectives for the development of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2024" measures to reduce air emissions should be implemented in twelve large industrial centers, including Chelyabinsk and Magnitogorsk. The key elements of the comprehensive plan adopted for Magnitogorsk were MMK's projects developed as part of the Clean City strategic initiative.
As part of this initiative, the company will reduce air emissions by more than 26 thousand tons, and emissions of the most dangerous pollutants of I and II class - 10 times, said Grigory Shchurov. The launch in July of this year of a new high-tech sinter plant MMK No. 5 with a total investment of 30 billion rubles will be a big contribution to improving the region's ecology. It is equipped with the best available technologies that will reduce dust emissions into the atmosphere by 2.1 thousand tons per year, sulfur dioxides - by 3.5 thousand tons per year. In addition, discharges of suspended solids into the circulating water supply system will decrease by 600 tons per year and emissions of benzopyrene will decrease by almost a quarter.
Another large-scale modernization project of the first processing unit, which will significantly reduce the technogenic load on the environment, is the project construction of coke oven battery No. 12. It provides for the gradual decommissioning of five old batteries, due to which gross emissions will be reduced by 11.35 thousand tons per year, or by 95%. Estimated costs for the construction of environmental facilities as part of the modernization of the coke-chemical plant will exceed 5.4 billion rubles.
The total costs of the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Combine for environmental activities in the period from 2000 to 2018 exceeded 58 billion rubles.
MMK carries out production activities with an understanding of responsibility for the impact on the environment and strives for the environmentally oriented development of its production potential. The systematic reduction and prevention of technogenic impact on the environment is an integral part of MMK's development strategy, which ensures the long-term and sustainable development of the plant.
