To get acquainted with the work of the new terminal, the port was visited by the Vice Governor of the Leningrad Region Dmitry Yalov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors, Executive Director of Metalloinvest Trading Vakhtang Kacharov, CEO of Metalloinvest Nazim Efendiev; CEO of Ultramar Andrey Bonch-Bruevich.
“At the St. Petersburg Forum in 2019, an agreement was signed on the construction of the port, a year later the project was implemented, and to date the volume of shipment has reached 2.2 million tons. The expansion of the Company's export capabilities is of particular importance today, when the demand for high-quality iron ore raw materials is increasing due to the growing demand for high-quality steel production and the tightening of environmental requirements, ”said Vakhtang Kocharov.
“The Leningrad Region is one of the drivers for the localization of cargo handling next to the port infrastructure in Russia,” Dmitry Yalov emphasized. “The creation of a modern logistics hub in Ust-Luga is important and can give a powerful impetus to the development of the country's export-import potential.”
The agreement on transshipment of iron ore raw materials through the new terminal in Ust-Luga between the companies Metalloinvest and Ultramar was signed within the framework of SPIEF-2019. The agreement provided for the construction of a terminal, railway tracks, storage areas and a berth for receiving Panamax-type vessels.
In October 2020, the first shipment of products was carried out from the port.
