Steady rests for various models of lathes

Processing of metals by cutting using lathes to obtain the final part is a fairly common technological operation. Physical impact on a rotating part with a cutter implies the occurrence of:

  • Undesirable deviations from the established alignment.
  • Vibrations and even "beats" of the workpiece.

To exclude such manifestations that affect the quality and speed of a specific operation, an additional emphasis (support) is used, which bears the technological designation " turning steady ". Taking into account the use in the industrial sphere of numerous types of lathes, as well as the peculiarities of the manufacturing technology of one or another part, the rests are classified according to certain dimensional and specific parameters.

Basic types of turning rests

According to the principle of their structural device and methods of application, lunettes (for almost all models) for turning equipment are conventionally divided into 2 main types:

  1. Static structure - an additional support is installed on the bed using the lower hook to fix the workpiece from the side opposite to the drum. The steady rest is equipped with 3 jaws for reliable clamping of the workpiece; they are made of soft steel grades and have a special coating that prevents damage to the surface of the workpiece being fixed.
  2. Movable retainer - it is installed on the longitudinal support of the machine and follows the movement of the cutter. Cam or roller clamps are used to fix the workpiece to be processed. Their number is calculated depending on the technology used to manufacture the part. The clamping mechanism is available in manual or hydraulic format.

You can get more information and familiarize yourself with the types of lunettes using the website of the company that sells, as well as accepts orders for the delivery of this type of equipment from manufacturers.
