Special friction materials are used to make linings for brake pads or clutch discs of cars and machine tools. These include the following options:
- Ferodo dimensional plates - hexamethylenetetramine, phenol-formaldehyde resins, filler, for example, glass mineral wool or thin steel filings of any grade of metal.
- Industrially produced retinax plates - phenol-formaldehyde resin with a rosin-modified structure, barite and asbestos as a binder filler, brass wire or chopped shavings that perform the function of reinforcement, as well as special extreme pressure additives and plasticizers.
The products are mass-produced using an industrial method using proven technologies on high-tech equipment. Sales are carried out in the format of blanks in packs or packages.
Classification by type
Ferodo or retinax used for the production of final parts meet the established technical characteristics. Classification is carried out taking into account:
- Hardness or strength.
- Friction coefficient parameters (different values depend on the type of interaction material, for example, cast iron or alloy steel).
- Resistance to temperature effects from 700 to 1200 C degrees, depending on the type.
The required brand of friction blanks for making certain types of parts is selected by a process engineer based on the calculations performed. All necessary technical information is presented in the reference books. The most common and popular brands:
- FK16L and FK24A - retinax.
- Press composition 143-63 - ferodo.
Manufactured spare parts and components made from friction materials for vehicles are subject to mandatory certification. The manufacturer provides analysis results on composition and characteristics. Issues a technical passport of the established type for each batch of products.
