Holidays of metal and real men - Metallurgist Day

Metallurgist's Day

We will preface the article with a short story that will best reveal our topic.

– Dad, dad, what holiday is today? - asked the little daughter, looking at her father, who was dressing up in his best suit.

The father, a steelmaker by profession, smiled and answered: “Today, my dear, is the holiday of metallurgists.” This is the day when we, metallurgists, celebrate our profession and our work, which makes our country strong and prosperous.

- What is a metallurgist? - the daughter asked, looking at her father with interest.

“ A metallurgist is a person who works with metal,” the father explained. – Ore is mined in mines, and we smelt it in a furnace to obtain metal.

– Are you a metallurgist? - asked the daughter.

“Yes, I am a metallurgist,” answered the father. - And I am proud of my profession. Metallurgy is an important industry that helps build bridges, houses, cars and much more.

– Will you work today? - asked the daughter.

“Yes, I will work,” answered the father. - But after work we will get together with my colleagues and celebrate this holiday. We will talk about our work, exchange experiences and just have a good time.

This is how the little daughter learned about the metallurgists' holiday and how proud her father is of his profession.

Brief historical background

Now let's continue the story in a more serious vein. Metallurgy in our country developed especially rapidly in the 30s of the last century. In 1932, the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works carried out its first metal smelting. In 1934, the first cast iron was produced by the Novolipetsk Iron and Steel Works. In the Kemerovo region, the KMK - Novokuznetsk plant was built. There is no doubt that the metallurgical industry of those years made a very significant contribution to the Victory over fascism. Weapons for the Red Army were forged from its metal.

Metallurgists made no less of a contribution to the restoration of the country after the war. A lot of metal was needed. It was necessary to build new cities, restore destroyed bridges, rebuild destroyed plants and factories, and also build new industries. Metallurgists coped with the assigned tasks with dignity.

A new holiday was established - Metallurgist Day

The Soviet leadership adequately appreciated the contribution of metallurgy to the development of the country. In 1957, the holiday Metallurgist Day was established. It is held every year on the third Sunday of July. Various events are held on this day to help celebrate the holiday. As a rule, various kinds of awards are given to honored industry workers. And, of course, concerts, exhibitions, and sporting competitions are held. In a word, the organizers of the holiday do everything that helps metallurgists and their families relax in body and soul on this day.

Modern metallurgy in Russia

Metallurgists continue to play a vital role in the modern development of Russia. This industry is one of the key ones in the country's economy, providing the production of various types of metals and alloys necessary for construction, mechanical engineering, transport and other industries.

The Russian metallurgical complex includes many enterprises engaged in mining and processing ore, production of steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals and other types of metals. These enterprises provide jobs for thousands of people and make a significant contribution to the country's budget.

Currently, the Russian metallurgical complex is one of the largest in the world. Its production produces steel, cast iron, aluminum, copper, zinc and other metals, which not only supply the domestic market, but are also exported.
