To create a high-quality floor covering, you can use various finishing materials. One of the most interesting options is the creation of a self-leveling floor. Such floors have remarkable strength and wear resistance, high moisture resistance, hygienic cleanliness. But how exactly to fill the floors? The technology is presented below.
1. Subsurface preparation
Before to equip self-leveling floors, it is necessary to prepare a rough base. The bottom line is that they first remove the old finish and get rid of the screed, which was previously equipped for decorative materials.
Often there are significant irregularities on the work surface. They also need to be eliminated. To do this, the floor is poured with an ordinary concrete solution. The solution is intensively smoothed, and after drying and curing, it is treated with a primer.
2. Arrangement of self-leveling floor
First of all, you need to figure out exactly how to prepare the solution for creating self-leveling floors. The mixture used in this case includes two main components: a binder base and a hardener. To prepare the solution, you just need to combine these components and mix them very well. This must be done immediately before pouring the floor.
The prepared solution is applied to the rough surface in a continuous layer. Since it is impossible to simultaneously pour a sufficient volume of the composition over the entire surface of the floor, it is usually poured in rows. The main thing here is that the neighboring areas do not have time to harden. Otherwise, seams are formed between them, which significantly reduce the strength of the filled layer.
It is quite possible that air cavities will remain in the thickness of the solution. It will be possible to eliminate them if you also pass through the filled composition with a roller with spikes. But after that, they must pass the rule again on the floor surface in order to get rid of the resulting irregularities.
3. Drying the bulk solution
The bulk composition differs from simple concrete in that it does not require special conditions for curing. It usually dries completely within 3-5 days. After that, you can start finishing work.
Although if the owner initially used a bulk solution for decorative work, finishing is not required. Self-leveling floors themselves will look great, and their practical characteristics will be much better than the same concrete screed.
