South Korea-based steel company POSCO announced on Sunday the launch of its second #SteelSaveEarth campaign, starting August 28, to raise awareness of the harmful environmental impact of single-use plastic waste.
The first such campaign was launched in April to encourage the use of reusable and recyclable steel containers as an alternative to plastic packaging. The upcoming campaign will aim to spread awareness about the dangers of plastic waste to the marine environment, the company said.
The POSCO Clear Ocean Volunteer Group, consisting of company executives and employees who have a diving certificate, will hold the Clear Ocean Day on October 18 for the first time. The company will be recruiting daily volunteers on its Instagram account from August 28 to November 27 to participate in the beach cleanup.
Posco also plans to launch an online movement in support of reducing plastic use. She will be holding raffles on the social network, in which the prizes will be environmentally friendly steel bottles.
This year, Posco's Clear Ocean Volunteer Group is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Since its inception, the group has conducted over 540 underwater clean-up activities and collected approximately 1,650 tons of garbage.
