China produced 92.8 million tons of steel in April 2022, down 5.2% from April 2021. India produced 10.1 million tons, up 6.2%. Japan produced 7.5 million tons, down 4.4%.

World steel production fell by 5.2% in April

Steel production in 64 countries that provide data to the World Steel Association in April 2022 decreased by 5.1% compared to the same period in 2021, to 162.7 million tons, the association said.

Africa produced 1.2 million tonnes in April 2022, down 5.4% from April 2021.

Asia and Oceania produced 121.42 million tons, down 4.0%.

The EU (27) produced 12.32 million tons, down 5.4%. The rest of Europe produced 4.22 million tons of steel, an increase of 0.5%.

Middle East produced 3.32 million tons, down 14.5%, North America produced 9.42 million tons, down 5.1%.

The CIS countries + Ukraine produced 7.3 million tons, which is 18.4% less. Russia last month, according to preliminary data from the association, increased steel production by 0.6% in annual terms, to 6.4 million tons.
