The largest auto concern Volkswagen has postponed its final decision to build a car plant in Turkey amid international criticism of the country's military operation in northern Syria and concerns about possible reputational consequences, German newspaper Handelsblatt writes late Monday.
“We are watching the situation with great concern,” a company spokesman said.
Earlier this month, Volkswagen established a subsidiary in Turkey's western Manisa province, while the company said it was still in the final stages of negotiations and that it had not made a final decision on the plant.
Recall that the heads of the European Union countries sharply criticized Turkey's invasion of northern Syria, and the US President on Monday imposed sanctions against this country, including 50% duties on Turkish steel .
