The World Steel Association has elected as its chairman the head of one of the largest steel companies in China HBIS Group, Mr. YU Yong. HBIS is the largest home appliance steel supplier in China, the second largest automotive steel manufacturer and a leading supplier of steel for nuclear power, shipbuilding, bridges and construction. In 2018, almost 120,000 people worked at HBIS factories, including about 12,000 foreign employees.
Sajan Jindal, Chairman and Managing Director of JSW Steel Limited, and Andre Johannpeter, Deputy Chairman of Gerdau SA have been elected Worldsteel Vice Chairs. Roger Newport, Chief Executive Officer at AK Steel, has been elected Treasurer of the Association.
The Association also elected 14 new members of the executive committee.
The World Steel Association is one of the largest and fastest growing industry associations in the world, which includes all major steel-producing countries. Worldsteel represents steel producers, national and regional steel industry associations and research institutes. Worldsteel members represent about 85% of the world's steel production.
