Global stainless steel production increased 5.5% year-on-year to 14.6 million tonnes in the first quarter of 2024.

The World Stainless Steel Association has published data for the first three months of 2024, according to which stainless steel production in steel shops around the world increased by 5.5% year on year to 14.6 million tons.

The highest growth in stainless steel production was recorded in the United States, where, due to rapidly rising energy prices, European companies are actively moving their production facilities. Stainless steel production in this region increased by 15.8% compared to the previous quarter, and in annual comparison increased by 6.5% and amounted to 509 thousand tons.

The largest drop in stainless steel production is observed at the end of first quarter of this year in Asian countries (by 5.2%) and China (by 4.5%).

In the BRICS countries, stainless steel production is steadily growing by an average of 10%
