Belarusian Metallurgical Plant stops smelting furnace for reconstruction

The Belarusian Metallurgical Plant is implementing the project "Comprehensive reconstruction of a dust and gas collection unit (CCGT-3)", for the completion of which the arc steelmaking furnace No. 3 (DSP-3) was shut down on October 5, 2021.

During the shutdown period of DSP-3, the reconstruction of the existing system for capturing and cleaning exhaust gases from the arc steel-making furnace No. 3 will be carried out with the construction of a new dust and gas collection unit. A new additional bag filter and an under-roof umbrella will be installed, as well as a system for monitoring emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere. All this in combination will reduce the volume of emissions from steel-making furnace No. 3 by 460.41 tons per year.

The current modernization of the dust and gas collection unit will improve the environmental friendliness of steel production. The main reconstruction works will be carried out from October 2021 to February 2022. However, the plant will continue to operate using the remaining two of the three steel furnaces.
