The Polish branch of Daikin, a Japanese manufacturer of air conditioning systems and heat pumps, is investing more than one billion zł in the construction of a heat pump plant near the city of Łódź. In Europe, against the backdrop of skyrocketing gas prices, there is a growing demand for heat pumps that use electricity to generate heat. Consumers have been waiting months for these pumps to be installed.

Last year in Poland, the number of heat pumps for home heating almost doubled to over 79,000 units.

A Japanese company plans to build a heat pump plant, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters. It is noted that the investor is Daikin, whose investment will exceed PLN 1 billion (approximately $213.13 million).

In May, the European Commission unveiled a €210 billion plan to end Europe's dependence on Russian fossil fuels by 2027 and accelerate the transition to green energy.

These investments include 56 billion euros for energy efficiency and heat pumps.

Heat pumps, also called reversible air conditioners, use electricity to concentrate heat potential and are more energy efficient than gas boilers.

According to the European Heat Pump Association, to meet the targets set by RepowerEU - the EU plan presented in May - it is necessary to install about 20 million heat pumps in the EU by 2026 and almost 60 million by 2030.
