Prices for hot-rolled European steel on Friday, April 11, were broadly unchanged amid modestly positive sentiment, supported by the latest EU protective measures on steel and limited supply in the domestic market in the second quarter of 2025, industry sources told Fastmarkets.
Transaction prices, however, remained below the target levels of manufacturers' supply, Fastmarkets notes.
German factories continued to offer HRC for delivery in June and July at a price of 670 euros ($743) per ton from the factory.
A major producer in the Benelux-as industry sources told Fastmarkets, the factory-based company was counting on 670-680 euros per ton of rolls for delivery in June-July.
The leading integrated European steel producer continued to offer HRC at 700 euros per ton from the factory or with delivery, depending on location.
It was heard that an Italian-made roll was offered to Germany at a price of 680 euros per ton
However, buyer sources estimated the market price at which to trade at 640-660 euros per ton from the factory.
Fastmarkets reported some low-tannin deals priced at 650-660 euros per ton shipped to Germany.
"According to Fastmarkets, there are no trades at the level of 700 euros (4:0)," a source from the Benelux buyers told Fastmarkets
"The current dynamics in the HRC market is not driven by demand. But the import situation and limited supplies at some plants supported domestic prices in the second quarter," said a second German-based buyer source.
