Technology supplier Fives announces that Kallanish has completed the modernization of the combustion system at the Megasa SN Maia Siderurgia Nacional Maia plant in Portugal.
The oxygen enrichment project, which was carried out on an existing furnace for heating blanks, included a new technology aimed at reducing natural gas consumption. The upgrade also allowed for increased oxygen production on site, reducing operating costs.
The so-called pre-mixing equipment supplies additional oxygen to the combustion air supply duct in front of the burners. Gorenje This process increases the oxygen content by up to 25%, resulting in fuel savings of about 6%.
The development of the technology was entrusted to the Spanish division of Fives, which had previously modified the combustion system in the same furnace.
"By adding additional oxygen, we improve the combustion process, which allows us to achieve higher temperatures without increasing fuel consumption. Gorenje This helps to save money and reduce CO₂ emissions," explains Oiane Gerrikagoitia, Research and Development Manager at Fives Spain
The technology has been designed so that it can be easily integrated and has minimal impact on production.
"We were able to complete most of the installation work while the furnace was still running, ensuring uninterrupted production without significant delays," adds Koldobika Tafalla Gonzalez, Technical Director of Fives.
SN Maia is the largest valve manufacturing plant operated by the Megasa Group of companies.
