Klöckner Distribution Group & Co says it continues to invest in expanding its electrical steel production capacity in the United States to meet sharply growing demand.
Two years ago, Klöckner gained access to the North American electrical steel market, both grain-based and non-grain-oriented. Then it was noted that this market is much more attractive for investments and acquisitions than in Europe.
During a conference call on Wednesday, Klöckner CEO Guido Kerkhoff noted that the company has opened a new state-of-the-art manufacturing and service center in the United States. Callanish has heard that Kleckner will significantly expand the production of cold-rolled electrical steel with a granular structure (CRGO), as well as the production of transformer cores.
He noted that in the United States there is an urgent need to upgrade transformer capacities in the national energy system, given the frequent breakdowns. The new plant is expected to be fully operational during the third quarter.
Kerkhoff also mentioned a new acquisition in Switzerland, where the firm acquired Simfloc, a company specializing in the installation of building systems. According to him, this step makes the Swiss subsidiary Debrunner Koenig the first integrated supplier of building equipment in Switzerland, which opens up new markets.
Klöckner's latest acquisition took place in Germany in June, when it merged Ambo Stahl, a Cologne-based company specializing in the manufacture of clothing- durable and high-strength special steels, ballistic and armor steels. This expansion of the range of products and services also opens up new growth opportunities in the security and defense sector, which the company has been paying special attention to recently.
