Prices for rolled steel and rebar in Poland remained stable during the week until Friday, August 22, and sources attribute this trend to the current slowdown in the market in the summer.
"Demand is not so high at this time of the year, during the holiday period," a source in the production association said.
"However, prices seem to have bottomed out, and we expect them to start rising again soon," they added.
Prices for domestic low-carbon wire rod for drawing according to sources, wire rod prices remained stable during the week through Friday.
Earlier this week, trade sources told Fastmarkets that, according to their information, some Polish steel mills have reduced prices for wire rod to about 590 euros ($691) per ton from the plant, but this has not been confirmed.
Fastmarkets' price estimate for steel rod (drawing quality) supplied to Poland on Friday was 2580-2650 zlotys (710-729 dollars) per ton, unchanged week to week.
Domestic prices for steel fittings in Poland were also stable during the week up to Friday, Fastmarkets trading sources said.
On Friday, market participants estimated the market price for rebar at 2,400-2,450 zlotys per ton, excluding VAT.
The weekly price estimate for domestic steel rebar in Poland, according to Fastmarkets, also reached 2400-2450 zlotys per ton on Friday, unchanged week after week.
