Norway calls for strengthening of EU CBAM to prevent carbon leakage and eliminate loopholes

The Norwegian Government presented its views at the European Commission's consultations on the Carbon Boundary Regulation Mechanism (CBAM). Norway emphasized that although its domestic enterprises, especially those producing primary aluminum, ferroalloys, and metallic silicon, already operate with significantly lower lifetime emissions through the use of renewable energy sources, they remain vulnerable to carbon leakage and unfair competition.

Welcoming the Commission's initiative, Norway stressed that strengthening CBAM is essential to maintain the competitiveness of industries experiencing declining growth rates during the transition to a green economy.
